Former Kansas State quarterback Will Howard made some interesting comments about the difference between Ohio State and Kansas State.
Howard spoke on the changes he’s noticed since arriving at Ohio State following training camp, saying, “Everything’s heightened here” and that he “feels the eyes a little bit.”
“I think the one thing I would say is that I don’t feel like I have to be a hero here,” Howard said. I feel like I have the guys around me, so I just need to facilitate, get them the ball, and make good decisions. At the end of the day, I don’t have to go out there and do anything superhuman. I just have to be myself and trust the guys around me.”
Howard transferred to Ohio State after four seasons with Chris Klieman and the Wildcats in Manhattan. At Kansas State, Howard became the program’s all-time passing touchdown leader, with 48 scores through the air.
While the comments may read as a shot toward his former program, Kansas State, Howard wasn’t the lone “hero” on either of his teams in Manhattan. In 2022, Howard lined up alongside a pair of First-Team All-Americans in Deuce Vaughn and Cooper Beebe and two more All-Americans in 2023 with Beebe and Ben Sinnott. In Howard’s defense, however, the Buckeyes enter the 2024 season with one of the best rosters in all of college football.
Whether the comment was meant as a dig at Kansas State or not, both programs should have a solid chance of making the trip to a College Football Playoff in the upcoming season.
