West Virginia Collapse Drops It Out of Tournament, Per ESPN’s Charlie Creme, Kansas Among Last Four In
A pair of really surprising results, each in different ways, has the NCAA Tournament bubble shaken up quite a bit in terms of Big 12 teams. West Virginia faltered down the stretch in a stunning 62-61 loss to Oklahoma State in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament, and Kansas suffered a similar fate, but to an awful TCU team in a 57-52 decision, and that has the two in precarious situations.
Per ESPN Bracketologist Charlie Creme, West Virginia is in a worse spot of the two. In fact, it’s dropped out of his projected field, after previously serving as one of the last four teams in. Speaking of the last four in, that’s exactly where Kansas now finds itself. It would be the third-to-final team in the Big Dance, if the season ended right now, Creme projects.
So, the pair of bubble squads will now be sweating it out even more than they were before. And that’s obviously never where you want to be on Selection Monday.
As for the rest of the league, there are four other teams who are safely in the field. Regular season co-champs Texas and Oklahoma are the safest of those, listed as No. 4 and No. 5 seeds, respectively. Then there’s Iowa State as a projected No. 6 seed and Baylor as a No. 8 seed.
Coaches around the league have suggested it should be thought about more highly. But for right now, that’s where things stand. Meanwhile, the Big 12 Tournament continues with the quarterfinal round all Friday.
