Ayoka Lee ESPN National, Big 12 Player of the Week

Ayoka Lee was named the ESPN Women’s National Player of the Week and the Big 12 Women’s Player of the Week after her huge start to the 2021-22 season.
Then, after learning of both honors, Lee celebrated by having another incredible game, scoring 31 points and grabbing 13 rebounds as the Wildcats improved to 4-0 with a 73-49 victory over North Carolina A&T, sweeping their three games in the Preseason Women’s NIT at Bramlage Coliseum.
Also, Texas guard Rori Harmon was named the Big 12 Women’s Newcomer of the Week.
Lee helped the Wildcats to a 3-0 first week of the season. In the Wildcats’ season debut against Central Arkansas, Lee set a Kansas State record for most points in a single game with 43 points in the 103-40 victory.
Later that week, Lee surpassed 1,000 career points.
Last week, Lee averaged 28.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3 steals, 2.3 blocks and 1 assist per game and played under 30 minutes per game. Entering Monday’s action, she led the nation in total points with 86 and ranked second in the country in scoring average. She is also fifth in the nation in total rebounds with 31.
Kansas State plays North Carolina State on Friday.
Harmon, meanwhile, debuted with Texas last week as a true freshman and helped the Longhorns to a 2-0 week, which included a victory over then-No. 3 Stanford. That win propelled the Longhorns from No. 25 to No. 12 in the current AP Top 25.
Harmon had a big game against Stanford, scoring a team-leading 21 points, along with grabbing five rebounds. In the Longhorns’ season opener, she scored seven points, grabbed four rebounds and dished out a team-high eight assists in a 131-36 win over New Orleans. After two games Harmon has a 9.0 assist-to-turnover ratio.
The Longhorns are back in action on Wednesday at 11 a.m. against Southeast Missouri.
