Sophomore quarterback Jackson Arnold is poised for a breakout season for the Oklahoma Sooners, according to Pro Football Focus’ 2024 Breakout Stars List.

As a freshman, Arnold appeared in six games for OU and showed flashes of his versatility not only as a passer, but as a runner. On 31 carries, he went for 116 yards on the ground and added one rushing touchdown.

Some other notable players on the list include Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamakeava, LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy, and Texas A&M quarterback Connor Weigman.

Former quarterback Dillon Gabriel transferred to Oregon after throwing 30 touchdowns for the Sooners in 2023. With Gabriel gone, the offense will be led by Arnold, who is a former five-star recruit.

In his first collegiate action, Arnold completed all 11 of his pass attempts, throwing for 114 yards and one touchdown in a win over Arkansas State.

The 6-foot-1 QB started in a bowl loss to Arizona, but still threw for 361 yards and two touchdowns. Arnold did throw three interceptions in the game, but nonetheless he still showed promising flashes of what Sooner fans can expect this upcoming season.

OU finished 2023 with a 10-3 overall record, placing No. 15 in the nation.
