Caleb Gastelum started playing football in the sixth grade, and almost immediately, his coaches nicknamed him “The Answer.”
Gastelum would always find himself in the right place at the right time, ready and willing to be the answer to any problem his team faced.
“The Answer” is at it again.
The walk-on senior linebacker led Oklahoma with eight tackles, recorded a sack and intercepted a pass in the Sooners’ 52-7 rout of Tulsa on Saturday. Immediately after the game, coach Bob Stoops rewarded Gastelum.
With a game ball and a scholarship.
“I tell myself everyday that hard work pays off,” said Gastelum, who has gone from nearly quitting and skipping spring practice to playing a significant role following the suspension of last year’s leading tackler, Frank Shannon.
