Former Florida head coach Dan Mullen appears to be taking some joy in the Gators getting smoked by Miami 41-17 on Saturday afternoon.
Mullen, who is now an analyst with ESPN, shared an epic retweet on Saturday. Mullen re-posted the following from fellow ESPN employee Matt Barrie, who wrote, “The Florida coach that got fired went to three consecutive New Year’s Six games in his first three years. And was let go in his fourth season.”
Mullen was the head coach at Florida from 2018 to 2021. He finished second in the SEC East in 2018 and 2019, and went on to win the Peach and Orange Bowl, respectively, his first two seasons. In 2020, he won the SEC East and then lost the Cotton Bowl to Oklahoma. But in 2021, the Gators went 5-6 overall and 2-6 in SEC play, which led to Mullen being fired.
In two seasons, Billy Napier went 6-7 his first season, then 5-7 last year, while going 3-5 in the SEC in both seasons.
The Gators are likely to get back on track next week when they play Samford, but UF has one of the toughest schedules in the country, which includes a Big 12 meeting vs. UCF on October 5th.
