K-State special team fail Cats in loss to Auburn

Special teams have been one of the hallmarks of Bill Snyder’s teams during his 23-year tenure at Kansas State.

During the past quarter-century, Snyder’s Wildcats have been as special as just about any team in the country when it comes to the kicking, punting and return units. Fans at Snyder Family Stadium and viewers on ESPN certainly saw evidence of that at times during Thursday night’s showdown against No. 5 Auburn, especially when All-American Tyler Lockett fielded punts.

But in the end, what viewers will remember most about No. 20 K-State’s 20-14 loss to the Tigers is that special teams failed the Wildcats when they needed them the most. And no player will kick himself more than Jack Cantele, the junior placekicker from Wichita who missed three costly field goals.
