Watch: BYU OL Blake Freeland Sets NFL Combine Record in Vertical Jump
Former Iowa Hawkeyes and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive lineman Tristan Wirfs’ vertical jump record at the NFL Combine is no more. BYU’s Blake Freeland broke it with a 37-inch leap Sunday in Indianapolis.
And not only does Freeland’s jump best Wirfs’ previous mark, but it’s better than a number of high-profile receivers’ marks when they participated in the event. That includes the likes of A.J. Brown (36.5″), Michael Pittman (36.5″), DeAndre Hopkins (36″), Stefon Diggs (35″), CeeDee Lamb (34.5″) and Amari Cooper (33″).
So, that demonstrates that how impressive Freeland’s number is even outside of his position. It’s an incredible showing.
What’s more? Freeland is excelling in multiple other events during his display. He ranks first among offensive linemen in the 40-yard dash at 4.96 seconds, and in the broad jump as well, having leapt 10 feet.
Freeland measured in at 6-foot-8, 302 pounds. His arm length was 33 7/8″.
In his time at BYU, Freeland was a captain and four-year starter, appearing in 44 games and starting 41 of those. He garnered third-team Associated Press All-American honors last fall. In 2022, he was also one of only three players on the team to start all 13 games for the Cougars.
NFL Draft projections have him listed as a likely second day selection. This performance should do nothing but solidify that, if not increase his stock some. And it will have some people buying into the fact that he could put together a long career, should things come together.
