According to a report from 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz, TCU could be looking to add former Houston head coach Dana Holgorsen to its staff ahead of the 2024 season.
Holgorsen, who spent eight years at West Virginia before taking the Houston job in 2019, was fired after a 4-8 season in the Big 12 last season and just two seasons after leading the Coogs to a 12-2 record and finishing as the No. 17 team in the nation in 2021.
Holgorsen has an all-time record of 92-69 as a head coach and was 61-41 during his time at West Virginia.
While he hasn’t been on the sidelines since he was fired last November, it appears Holgorsen could end up back in the Big 12 as fall camp gets underway this week in Fort Worth.
After a disappointing 5-7 season in 2023, TCU head coach Sonny Dykes has retooled both his coaching staff and roster as the Horned Frogs try to recapture the magic of his first season at the helm.
If Dykes opts to bring in Holgorsen, it will make three former FBS head coach hires to his staff this offseason, with former Boise State head coach Andy Avalos taking the defensive coordinator position and former Nevada head coach Ken Wilson coaching linebackers.
Dykes and Holgorsen have a decorated history together, as both cut their teeth as assistants under Mike Leach at Texas Tech from 2000-06.
Holgorsen was the offensive coordinator for the Red Raiders in 2007, the OC at Houston in 2008-09, and the OC at Oklahoma State in 2010 before taking the West Virginia job.
TCU will open up the 2024 season in Palo Alto, California, on Friday, August 30, against Stanford. Kickoff is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. CT with coverage provided by ESPN.
