The 2024 college football season is less than three weeks away, which means the preseason AP Top 25 will be released in a matter of days.
It’s been seven months since we last saw a college football game played, but we’ve made it through another offseason filled with off-field headlines and things that coaches would refer to as “rat poison.”
Well, before too long, those things will subside and actual football will take over as the top story in the sport once again. However, before that happens, there is still one major headline to drop, and that’s the AP Top 25.
On Monday, August 12, the Associated Press will release its official Top 25 rankings, which will be used to rank teams until the College Football Playoff rankings take precedence over the final six weeks of the regular season and Conference Championship weekend.
While the official Top 25 is still a week away, Brett McMurphy of Action Network released his ballot to the public this morning, instantly sparking debate among college football fans.

Utah checks in as the highest-ranked Big 12 team at No. 10, but isn’t far ahead of K-State (No. 11) and Oklahoma State (No. 12) to start the year.
Iowa State checks in at No. 23 while Kansas (No. 25) rounds out McMurphy’s Top 25, giving him five Big 12 teams in his first ballot.
Four other Big 12 teams were among his Top 40 teams entering the season, with Arizona, TCU, UCF, and West Virginia all narrowly missing McMurphy’s initial Top 25.
