Mountaineers miss out on shutout, but cruise to 33-14 win over Kansas

Those who remained in the stands late in the third quarter Saturday were left to look for the second shutout of the season, which seemed likely the way the Kansas offense and West Virginia defense were playing.

The most faithful of the 52,164 at Mountaineer Field had that feat slip through their fingers, though, when a punt slipped through Jordan Thompson’s fingers to give the Jayhawks the ball at the WVU 18-yard line.

Kansas scored four plays later, and had a rare third-down conversion along the way, to deprive the Mountaineers of their first multiple-shutout season since 1996.
