Is there anything better than cold beer and baseball? It’s a combination that is hard to beat during the season. No matter what kind of beer you drink (or how many), let’s take a look at some of the best action on the Big 12 baseball diamond from Saturday with a nice six pack.
Best Game
Oklahoma at #12 TCU
We had a fun one in Funky Town as TCU looked to bounce back against Oklahoma to even up the series. The Horned Frogs put up two runs in the fourth inning to take a 2-0 lead before the Sooners put up a four spot in the fifth. In that inning, Jaxon Willits got Oklahoma on the board and then Bryce Madron hit a three-run bomb to give his team a 4-2 lead.
Oklahoma would add a run in the eighth to make it 5-3 but TCU wouldn’t go away easily. Anthony Silva knocked in a pair of runs before Karson Bowen tied it up with his RBI single.
Luckily for the Sooners, they called upon Cater Frederick to pinch hit and it paid off big time.
They also added one more insurance run and ended up winning 7-5.
Best Win
Oklahoma Over #12 TCU
I could have gone with UCF here but it’s hard ignore what Oklahoma accomplished on Saturday night. They beat TCU on the road in back-to-back games to take the series. Not only did they win but they are also in sole possession of first place in the Big 12 with a 5-0 record. A win on Sunday would mean a sweep over TCU and if that happens, Oklahoma should be considered as a top 15 team in the country.
Worst Loss
Texas
After dropping game one of their series against Washington on Friday night, Texas had to win on Saturday to even things up. Unfortunately for them, that didn’t happen as the Longhorns once again got themselves in an early hole and couldn’t dig themselves out of it. Now Texas has to win on Sunday to avoid being swept.
Saturday MVP
Houston 2B Harold Coll
Even though his team lost on Saturday, it wasn’t because of Harold Coll. He homered in the second inning and then brought in three more runs in the eighth to pull his team back in the game.
Pitcher of the Day
Cincinnati RHP Tommy Boba
What a game for Tommy Boba. He pitched eight full innings against Kansas and allowed just a single hit which game in the eighth inning. Tommy didn’t give up a run and he managed to strike out eight batters during his time on the mound. He was so close to the no hitter.
Best Home Run
Oklahoma OF Carter Frederick
Carter came in to pinch hit in the ninth inning for Oklahoma. The game was tied at five and Carter broke that tie with his blast to center. It was by far the best home run on Saturday.
