Texas Softball Advances to Super Regionals With 7-0 Win Over Northwestern

The Texas Longhorns defeated Northwestern 7-0 in NCAA Tournament’s Austin Regional, clinching home-field advantage in the Super Regionals.
Texas will face Texas A&M in the Super Regionals starting on Thursday, May 23rd. Meantime, Northwestern’s season comes to an end after becoming the Big 10 regular season champions.
Freshman pitcher Teagan Kavan struck out a season-best 12 batters while also only allowing one hit. In the first inning, a single from Katie Stewart brought in two runs to give Texas the early lead.
Mia Scott hit a three-run home run to extend the Longhorn lead to 5-0 during the second inning. Then in the fourth inning, Vivi Martinez hit a triple to bring in another run as Texas led 6-0. Alyssa Washington scored the final run of the game in the fifth-inning to up the Longhorn lead at 7-0.
Through five innings, Kavan was on pace to throw a no-hitter before Angela Zedik completed the Wildcats’ first hit in the sixth inning.
She earned the complete-game win as Northwestern failed to score a single run. The one-hitter thrown by Kavan means that the next round will be held at McCombs Field in Austin, Texas.
This marks the fifth-straight season where the Longhorns have advanced to the Super Regionals.
