Grant McCasland Addresses Getting ‘Embarrassed ‘ by Texas on Tuesday Night
Texas Tech’s final time hosting rival Texas in United Supermarkets Arena didn’t go as planned, as the Longhorns ran the Red Raiders off the court, 81-69.
Midway through the second half, things went completely off the rails after Texas’ Brock Cunningham body-checked Darrion Williams, knocking him out of bounds during a race for a loose ball.
While officials assessed the situation, ultimately issuing a flagrant two foul to Cunningham and sending him back to the locker room, Texas Tech fans started hurling objects onto the court as chaos took over.
The objects continued being thrown onto the court after the foul was assessed, eventually leading Texas Tech head coach Grant McCasland to get on the mic and tell the unruly fans to knock it off.
“Everything that gets thrown on the floor, we’re going to get a technical foul,” McCasland said. “It’s got to stop. It’s got to stop. Do I make myself clear?”
The frustration from the fan base extended beyond the foul though, as the Red Raiders were down 47-23 at halftime and never got closer than their final deficit of 12 points in the second half.
After the game, McCasland took the time to address the outcome and how Texas Tech can find a way to improve from it.
“I did a terrible job of coaching our team tonight,” McCasland said at one point. “And I’ve got to do a better job making sure we’re ready.”
Texas Tech will be back in action against West Virginia on Saturday, followed by a game at Oklahoma State and then their final home game against Baylor. The Red Raiders are currently the No. 5 seed in the Big 12 tournament and also project as a No. 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
