All games on the schedule are important, but some simply mean more than others — for the folks in Iowa, the Cy-Hawk game is as big as they get.
On Saturday, we will get the latest iteration of Iowa vs. Iowa State; as always, everything will be on the line in this one. In a rivalry that dates back to 1894, there aren’t many matchups out there that leave a bitter taste with the loser like Cy-Hawk does, and that’s what makes it so important.
Just ahead of tomorrow’s matchup, Iowa State shared a video on social media that attempts to capture the emotions of this game as the team heads toward Iowa City.
Iowa-Iowa State never fails to bring the dramatic to center stage, and that should be the case once again in 2024. Each of the last six contests in this rivalry has been decided by 10 points or fewer, and four of six have been by a touchdown or less.
Perhaps more interesting is the fact that the road team has gone 3-0 over the last three contests. Iowa came into Ames last season and won 20-13, and in 2021 before that, 27-17. Meanwhile, the Cyclones took the game in 2022 by a score of 10-7 in front of a sold-out crowd at Kinnick Stadium.
Entering this year’s game, Iowa is favored by a field goal at home and is coming off a 40-0 win over Illinois State, while Iowa State comes into the contest at 1-0 after beating North Dakota 21-3.
Who will take home the Cy-Hawk Trophy — and the bragging rights — in 2024? Tune in for the game at 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, with coverage provided on CBS and Paramount+.
