Following his decision to transfer to Kansas State from Colorado, Dylan Edwards made his Week 1 debut on Saturday night.

Edwards made a huge impact in the 41-6 win over UT Martin, but one of his biggest moments came during his time on the sideline.

Kansas State head coach Chris Klieman mentioned that Edwards was incredibly grateful to be playing for the Wildcats, his hometown team that he grew up cheering for.

“He was excited,” Klieman said. “I know he was excited. He came up and gave me a big smile a couple of times, and I told him that I love him and appreciate him. He said, ‘Coach, thank you so much for this opportunity. This is what I dreamed of.’ It’s cool stuff.”

Edwards was electric in his Big 12 debut, totaling 62 yards and two touchdowns. Edwards posted five carries for 43 yards with an average of 8.6 yards per carry. His first score came on a one-yard touchdown that was set up by a big play from Avery Johnson to Jayce Brown that put the Wildcats on the doorstep of the endzone. His second score came in the fourth quarter on a sideline fade to the pilon.

“I mean, this kid grew up with Avery,” Klieman continued. “He grew up watching K-State Football, and now he got to play at the Bill and make some big-time plays. I think it’s going to continue to get better and better.”

While Edwards and the Wildcats made short work of the UT Martin Skyhawks, they will be tested in Week 2 on the road vs. Tulane, who looked impressive in their season opener.
